Tactical Urbanism Application & Implementation at the Monon Crossing of E. 16th St.

(re)Vision16 and its community partners at 16xMonon.org submitted an Indy DPW Community Powered Infrastructure application on 8/31/2025. In November 2025 we received acceptance. (re)Vision16 and 16xMonon volunteers met with City DPW official to discuss proposal amendments, requirements, and preparation needs to initiate implementation during spring 2026. The project will use paint and roadway safety equipment installation to narrow traffic at the Monon Greenway Crossing of East 16th St. to 2 lanes (down from 4). The tactical urbanism project will also designate vehicle parking spaces with paint leading to the crossing on each side of 16th Street to encourage a road diet leading to the crossing.

16xMonon will lead the tactical urbanism implementation event with support from the (re)Vision16 East Action Team volunteers. The resident volunteers coordinated by 16xMonon will help with pre/post speed data gathering, implementation safety logistics, volunteer coordination, street painting, and roadway component placement from DPW’s Tactical Urbanism Lending Toolkit will ensue in the Spring 2026.
