Vehicles crashes continue assault of historic homes and property at 16th & Delaware St. intersection
The historic home at 1606 N. Delaware St. faces an ongoing epidemic of repeated vehicle crashes. Vehicles often crash at this intersection and collide with the historic home at 1606 N. Delaware and cause damage. In January 2023, the Harrison Center hosted neighborhood association leaders from Herron Morton Place and the Old North Side to share concerns with leaders from Indy DPW and Indy DMD. This discussion shared the community need for interim changes that could help prevent any more wrecks before N. Delaware and N. Pennsylvanian Streets are converted to 2-way traffic in 2029-2030. No changes have occurred to date. In 2025 at least 8 vehicles crashed into the historic home at 1606 N. Delaware. Other nearby homes and parked vehicles have also suffered from vehicle crashes at this intersection. (re)Vision16 fears that a Herron HS student or another pedestrian may be harmed without an interim intervention.
(re)Vision16 volunteers and neighbors developed this list of 5 simple no-cost and low-cost interventions that DPW can take to reduce/end the ongoing crash epidemic at this intersection during the next 4 years before conversion to 2-way brings relief. Please review these recommendations at this LINK.
