Indy DPW's Community Powered Infrastructure (CPI) program has recently approved an application submitted by a partnership of 16xMonon.org and ReVision16.org. This traffic calming tactical urbanism intervention will seek to improve safety at the Monon Crossing on East 16th Street. 16xMonon.org, whose volunteer residents focus on the neighborhoods nearest the crossing, will lead the project targeting late April for the installation. The corridor-wide initiative ReVision16.org will support and assist 16xMonon.org and DPW with data gathering and more.
Join partner 16xMonon.org as they lead the event to create a safer Monon Greenway Crossing with resident volunteers to make the 16th and the Monon Greenway Crossing safer for all.
Volunteers for the Indy DPW’s Community Powered Infrastructure tactical urbanism implementation will meet at a time to be designated at 16th & Monon Crossing for the BUILD DAY event. Community volunteers led by 16xMonon.org in coordination with Indy DPW staff will install parking blocks, reflective lane delineators, and paint the street-narrowing designs as local artists and coordinators from 16xMonon.org coordinate the implementation of this traffic calming tactical urbanism build as our East Action Team’s second Direct Action service event to improve our corridor.
Volunteers are needed for Build Day - Saturday, April 25th and for data gathering as detailed below:
February - November, 2026: A special “data brigade” from (re)Vision16 will conduct pre/post data gathering from February 2026 through the duration of the project, ending in November, 2026. This critical component of the project is required by Indy DPW, and will demonstrate the effectiveness of this intervention, and/or guide later updates to the corridor. Friday, April 24th in early afternoon: a few volunteers from 16xMonon.org will pick up items from DPW lending library tactical urbanism kit with our rental van / truck, and store to deploy in the morning of Saturday, April 25th.
Saturday, April 25th (9AM - 4PM) BUILD DAY event: - Volunteers to join 16xMonon.org as they direct the Build Day activities and deployment of this day of community-led safer streets creation. Prospective volunteers see this link to register your interest in helping with 16xMonon.org!
Sunday, April 26th (9AM - 4PM) Alternate Action Day in the event of rain / weather we have designated this as the alternate build day.
