Traffic Calming Intervention - Ordinance Update: 189-2025
(re)Vision16 is focused on the 1.4 mile stretch of East 16th Street Corridor. Volunteers have separated East 16th Street into three components to help match needs with volunteers’ interests. Quickly after our initial meeting on October 23, 2024, volunteers determined that improving safety of all users was a primary goal, and that traffic calming should be an initial core objective.
Attendees formed an “East Action Team” to focus on the segment of the corridor from College Ave. east to Roosevelt Ave. The East Action Team recognized the Monon Greenway Crossing at East 16th Street to be extremely dangerous and in need of a traffic calming intervention. Participants noted that a City/County Ordinance change was required to initiate traffic calming measures along East 16th Street. With help from Council President Vop Osili and Council Member Jesse Brown on July 7, 2025 the Indianapolis City-County Council Proposal 189-2025 passed this new Ordinance which removed parking restrictions on E. 16th Street from N. College Ave. to Roosevelt Ave.
This (re)Vision16 achievement is the key precursor for traffic calming interventions on the corridor.
